My Mods in Progress
« on: August 30, 2012, 08:40:28 PM »
Hey guys! Just started and I'm sorting out a few tweaks on my stilts. The plan is;

  - Tyre armour, a la Rude Dog, I have bought the same Halo Tyres in purple.
  - New more padded straps, some Raven snowboard bindings that will be dyed purple.
  - Tyre socks made to Pinhead69's specs.

I'll upload photos as and when I get them, but it's taken almost a week just for the tyres to turn up!  :Cerr:

  Thanks,

  Ryan.

Tyre at 75%, just need to cut the rails and put the holes in for rope.

The following is a succession of images from taking off the buckles from the snowboard bindings through to dying.

Sexy bindings!

Removed.

Bindings and Rit Dye! (Best dye ever, plastic and fabric)

Purple!

The best way is to bring a big pot of water with one dry sachet and bring to a light simmer, then dye till the colour is achieved.

Swill off till the water runs clear. Use cold water.

Finished results!

For best colour, use a completely white plastic or fabric. You can dye other colours, but they'll influence the result or just not work at all. For example, dye something red when it is a deep blue, it'll end up purple-ish.

 Work in progress!  :Csmile:

Yeah! Rit dye is a miracle worker. Just a little bit of heat and a packet of rit dye and you're on your way. You can buy a lightener/remover too, which works in a similar way and can lighten darker colours to allow for dying a lighter colour.

Progress  :Csmile:

Please ignore the motorbike boots acting as support. Haha, still working on the rubber soles for the feet and have an idea for a cuff mod I should be exploring in the next week, wish me luck!

That is where I got mine from. You'll need a big pan and I would advise an old one you don't mind possibly destroying with dye! They have pretty much every colour and it's roughly the average price from most places. When you heat up the water, be careful not to let it overboil onto the cooker... Anyone who does that must be silly...  :Cerr:

Having learnt over the years I have a small camping gas cooker that can be used for such things

Last one was boiling bitumen to soundproof a car floor and that came off eventually (of the cooker not the car)  :Claugh:

Thanks for the link mate I have some nylon I want black
