Self Amalgamating Rubber Tape
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:04:34 PM »

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/S-vtvUC4RoQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/S-vtvUC4RoQ</a>

I was thinking of using a rubber tape on my springs, such as sport tape used on tennis rackets when I found this tape.
Any bockers have experience with it?

Here is the racket grip tape I was originally considering:

We use the amalgamating tape at work and for stopping leaks it is fab
Don't think it will give much protection in a fall though at it cuts and can be torn quite easily
Also when you need to get it off it will be a nightmare as you have to cut it and could nick the springs

A few people tried Handle grip tape but it never caught on not sure why (hockey tape was mentioned a few times)

I tend to protect it with the innertube then fix that in place with either heavy packing tape or gaffer tape

I then sew up a velcro on cover either of heavy cotton with a name/motto etc on it or the latest stuff is a foam backed nylon in iridescent blue which gives good protection and seems to last well during falls

But gotta admit the cheep tyre system is about the best as you don't need any other protection and a set of tryes will cost about £10 and a few tiewraps

I ordered some "SAT" and some grip tape as it was about £2.50 to £4.00 each so I took the plunge to see for myself.
I will invest in a tyre or two now! *eBay time*

I've just covered my springs in towel grip tape. I dunno how it stands for protection (I dont usually use any so it has to be better) but I love how it feels Smiley
