how long do the rubber feet last?
« on: May 18, 2007, 01:56:03 PM »
hi all

Ive had my pro-jumps for about 3 weeks and already the feet have worn down to the metal >:(. They have only had 10-12 hours use because i hurt my back for 2 weeks. Is this normal?

They do tend to run out really quickly, I use tyre socks, to save my foot pads, I just change the tyre socks when I run out of grip!!

Yeah, this is becoming more and more common, the only solution is buying new hoofs and then fitting tyre socks on them, here is a nice tutorial courtesy of Bill.C

http://www.geocities.com/powerisertiresocks

and a video tutorial (the bottom video)

http://www.xtremeimportz.com/Powerizer_Instructional_Videos.html

Hope this helps  ;D

I tried a slick BMX tyre at first and only got one set out of it cost £10
OK on concrete but useless on grass

I have now got some from a mountain bike ( got NUTRAK in white and Innova in rubber on them ) Cost £10

Fantastic on grass and concrete also got three sets out of them so no contest
the grippy ones win

If you follow one of the tutorials and make sure the are on tight I found that my ballance actualy improved on grass and was the same on concrete also seemto get less slip in gravel and dusty ground

The main one was stopping from a run and going down hill it made it easy on grass even damp grass ( damp grass was like ice with no socks )

The only bad bit was they wear quick but not as quick as the hoofs by the sound of some recent posts ( I have only used mine without socks a dozen times ) the new socks I have just used seem to be lasting well only time will tell

I have done about 10 hours of walking in the last couple of days, with my tyre socks on, loving taken from my old mountain bike, no sign of wear, and it helps me to keep grip on all surfaces, i got about enough to change each sock twice!!! Good old 26" wheels, may try for 3 changes per sock next time, with my other wheel, and use the inner tube for putting underneath mu jubilee clip, to create a larger amount of pressure to hold my tyre socks on!!! How many jubilee clips do people use per tyre sock? as I use 2 clips per sock, for assurance that the sock will stay on!!!  ;D

Get youself the biggest chunkiest hardest mountain bike tyre and you can cut it into six bits big enough to reverse all for £10  :D

I think argos sell a set of 2 tyres for £14 so you might beat me yet  ;)

But remember it's quality not quantity that counts (as my bocks slid from under me on the first set I made from really cheep tyres  :o ) so I tend to go for grip rather than price

I agree here, I went for grip, not for cheapness, well I did nick it off my old mountain bike, which was destined for that scrapyard in the sky!! only cost me £2 for the clips!!  ;D

Finished my sox yesterday, bought an old 12" tyre for £2 and had some clips at home, i think its agod idea to cut the tyre bigger than you think, mine are a bit small but do the job fine.
