CB Cardiff 2011
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:51:34 PM »
I had a meeting today with some of the bigwigs at cardiff council and I threw in a mention of capital bockering and the possibility of it being in Cardiff for 2011. They showed a lot more interest in it than they did in 2008 but agreed it would need to be planned and booked well in advance and require me to liase with the events team at cardiff council asap.

So before I even bother to do that, lets see if people want it.

Unless there are some new ideas that could be put together, the format would be almost identical to the previous visit, with the exception that we would have some crowd barriers and we could have electricity on site. I dont see either of these things as terribly important.
I was thinking have it as a 2 day event again, I'm not sure about camping again though and certainly not at the rugby club we used last time. Personally I'd rather everyone was at a travelodge or something.

I did stress it would remain a social gathering and not a competitive or structured event.

Think you can count on Clive and me as we had so much fun last time

Would love to camp again but a nicer camp site of at least a light in the loo would be good  :Claugh:

I know the Travel lodge is nice but we did have fun at the camp site  but will go with the majority of find a camp site

If something is substantially organized I'll do my best to get myself and some other Americans over there for it.  Was a blast in 08 and I'd love to go again.

it would be school holidays. I'm not against camping its just cardiff is very short of campsites and finding one suitable for us is a nightmare. At least this time around I will know about it and have plenty of time to source something but it's still not easy.

Sure thing; sign me up.

I'm free practically all summer, so any time's good, but July/August is best if you don't want wet and miserable weather.

I'm in. camping prefered, are there any scout sites knocking around locally? there are a lot scout bockers me being one of them and as a warrented leader along with quite a few EPB we could probably get a scout site to take all for the weekend provded there not booked up, which will generally mean good toilets and showers
falling is proof your trying

Thanks for the offer Adam, Becky looked into this last time for us. There was one on the outskirts of the city (which was unavailable at the time) but it does leave a problem for those without transport. Ironically, it's about 15 mins drive from cardiff bay down a bypass.

If it all goes ahead, I'll look into it some more.

Right boys and girls I have good news and bad news.

Good news is, Cardiff Council have tightened their belts and 3 of their big festivals have been cancelled this year. This means the bay is going to be free most of August (waiting on confirmation of dates) which means we could have CB in Cardiff this year.

The bad news is, I dont have time to organise it. If you wanna go ahead with it I will liase with the council which will basically be letting them know we are coming on such-and-such date.
I wont have time to sort out a campsite.

So I guess the options are we either have a 1 day event or we have a 2 day event again and leave everyone to find their own hotels/camping arrangements.
I can certainly help and advise with hotels. There is a new travelodge about 2 mins walk from the bay and the infamous etap hotel about 5 mins drive away.

I'm kinda living between 2 places at the moment and could potentially provide floor space for people to sleep on but thats really a last resort.

I will book our gym for several hours but I will decide that closer to the time, depending on numbers etc but really I think everyone should make the most of Cardiff Bay and some welsh sunshine.

No sheep will be permitted at this event.
