« on: October 04, 2010, 09:26:39 AM »
hey guys thinking about making some tyre armour and im wondering where can i buy a red tyre, id prefer one with a thick or rough tread but any is good,
also thinking about getting all metal parts polished to give it a chromed finish, tell me what you think of the idea.

only problem with the polishing so far is cost, i would have them done professionally so it would cost a pretty penny, then there is putting them back together, that i dont like teh idea of

if you order some new bushes first, and just replace the lot when you rebuild they will be fine, and feel like brand new stilts again, im looking at the spare frames ive got now thinking.........hmmmm

Crome finish  :Claugh:

You have picked yourself a fight there mate

I used to have wolfrace wheels on an old beach buggy and they were a pig to keep shiny and they started out that way

I look forward to using the end result as a mirror at the next meet  :Claugh:

Yep they are ally mate

Two things put me off polishing them

The work and time was not the problem (I'm making a 6mm ring chain mail suit  :Claugh: )

The projumps have a cast finish so you will have to flat them down to start with now depending on how rough the cast is you may have to take quite a lot of material off
This could seriously weaken the structure of the parts and cause early failure
The second reason is that in normal use stilts get fairly scuffed up and to finish all the polishing and scratch them the first time out would be gutting

So for me polishing was a no go unless I was going to use Powerskips (they have a flat finish to start with so would be easy to shine) but I'm to mean to pay that much for stilts  :Claugh:

in that case i may wait, then replace the parts but before replacing get them polished, that way if the structure is weakened and they do break then i can replace it with an older part
