calf cuff bolt keeps falling out
« on: December 11, 2009, 05:52:11 PM »

every other time i use my pro jumps the bolt falls out of the calf cuffs which results in me wobbling to a halt and carrying them back to my car to find a spanner

the bolt works loose then pulls the 'nut' out from the stilt itself. Has anyone else had this problem? is locktight the best option here?

Don't use it until we replace them for you as it looks like its assembled wrong.

I have this same problem with my Air Trekkers, the bolts seem to become loosened after long periods of time. It doesn't seem to be much of a problem though, I just tighten them every so often and it takes them a while to get back out.

EDIT: Okay nevermind what I said, this problem has begun to haunt me. The bolts aren't even "bolted" in there, really! It came out one day and I nearly fell...... this isn't natural >.<

Since I'm having the same issue would you mind letting me know if your replacements end up doing the same thing?

Unlikely DreamingWolf as it looks like they just hadn't crushed the RivNut properly at the factory

Easy mistake to make if your doing lots

If yours are doing the same get them back to the seller but most of the time it's just the bolt working loose and that can be cured with some locktite

Ah I see, well if my current modifications remain stable I might not have to. I basically replaced the original bolt with a nylon-based lock nut (inside the frame of course, which was a task in itself).

I found the reason behind the bolts coming out, however this may not be the case for everyone with this issue. I had tightened the calf cuff bolts, meaning they basically lost the mobility that the washer allows (slight movements from the calf cuff's up-down motion while running or walking). This meant that the rotation point became the bolt itself, rather than the washer or area in-between. So, slowly but surely, the bolt "wiggled" and chipped it's way out of the frame.

So, lesson learned, no more serious calf cuff tightening!!

same as me, so I switched them out to other bolts that were twice as long, then I put on double locknuts, after this, they never move / twisted / moved or fallen out

Sorry for necroing this thread. Just having a related problem.

Though I can't get my calf cuff nut/bolt thing off. XD I have a poweriser cuff. So both sides look identically. I've ended up stripping both sides of the bolt/nut and can't get it off.

All I need to do is to get it off to switch that and the cuff strap to a new bar. My old one was bent. Poweriser mailed me a replacement rod but it was only one rod with no nuts or the strap thats attached to it.

I havn't seen the Poweriser cuffs mate but if it is the same as the one pictured above the threaded bit in the "Rod" is called a Rivnut (also has other names)
They are a fit once unit and you put them in with a special rivet gun they can't be removed and reused as they crush to make contact and work properly

If they don't look like that post a pic and I will try to advise
As for the straps the ones on the old knee bars were riveted on you can get a cheep rivet gun with a selecton of rivets online for about £10 or find someone who works on cars a lot and borrow one (Thats if they are fitted the same way) or again post a pic

Here's some pictures. The quality sucks. But if you can't tell on either side of the bolt there used to be a slot for a phillips head screw driver. Both now just look square as I stripped them out.

I had this same problem, and still have it, no offense to Pro-Jump. But ever since I got them I have had trouble :S bolts pop out they are all frayed and the bolt inside the metal brackets also snapped off :S so they are tapped in atm. Not sure if it is just me or not

Right now I'd wish mine would just fall out. xD

Having a brand new bar to put the cuffs on. But not being able to get the cuffs off the old bar sucks.

Hi Mate

Those are very diferent to the ones I have seen but I can see your problem or at least I think I can

I take it that the bit you have taken a pic of is a cross head on the end of an internally threaded tube

If the other end is a hex head I would suggest you find someone with a decent metal vice and grip the bit you have pictured in it (just the tip of the screw head) and then undo the other side
If no vice is available get a decent set of Mole Grips (locking pliers) and use them instead

As a permanent fix file a couple of flats on the side of it so you can use a spanner on it next time

Replace the internal bolt/screw each time you change it so as to keep a good head on it (machine screws/bolts are cheep if you buy bulk)

If I am wrong about the other side post some more pics

Their both cross heads. It's just stripped completely off.

But I'll see if I can get the locking pliers to work.

They have got me out of trouble a few times mate

Might be worth asking your Poweriser dealer if they have some spare bolts to replace them with

I'm trying through the manager from poweriser usa.

I've been emailing them whats been going on.

Though they told me to try wd-40 and then after I explained it wasn't working they just replied

"Now what?"

I asked for the parts I needed and haven't heard back.

Thats the nice bit about living in England mate

We have Naz and the legendry customer service

You might be able to get something similar on the net I would imagine that they are used for something else not made specialy for Poweriser

Try googling machine screws/fixings nuts bolts etc (anything you can think of) and you might come up with something that will do the same or a better job

Oh as a last resort you could run a junior hacksaw through the gap between cuff and bar that will destroy the nut but at least they will be apart
