Bock Mod Kit
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:00:37 AM »
I am looking into developing a kit for purchase, but I want to see if there is any interest first.

This would mostly be for beginning bockers or non-DIY types..

Custom Mod Pack:
Pair of Leg braces (similar to Pin straps) - Custom colors, styles
PVC Tape - 3 or more (large) rolls, Custom colors
1-2 pair Tyre socks- Choose from several treads, colors, and styles (tie-up, velcro, etc)
Footplate brace coverings - Customs colors
Screw covers - Customs colors, styles

What do you think?
I will research and see what colors are available for each items, and get some color scheme mock-ups.  There are also a few other accessories I could include.
Price target around or below $50 USD

It seems like a really good idea but over all it would depend on the quality of the final products. I could definately see the idea working really well and a target price of $50 equiv to about £25 seems totally reasonble but have you considered p&p costs etc?

Have you done any of the mods yet? and how well did they work?

P&P should not be much of a problem.  The kit should be somewhat compact, depending on the accessories included..  And I can make my own packaging for nearly free.

I've created a unique Tyre sock design with great success, though it has not been stress tested (hope to put it to the test this weekend ;)
Working on the next sock..  All designs have the goal of not looking like 'a half tyre strapped on the hoof'.

Currently working out the design of the Leg braces as well, but materials are comparable to Pin straps.

And the other items are mostly ready to go, with perhaps a bit of trimming.

Currently, I have too many ventures to start producing many of these kits, but...
If there is enough demand, perhaps I could put a few together.
$50 (USD) kit includes:

Pair of leg braces (pinstraps)
2 Pair tyre socks (4)
4 rolls of PVC tape (or pair of spring covers)
And a few bolt caps, and footplate brace covers...

All custom colors/styles.
*Note: These items are made specifically to fit PoweriZer brand stilts.

I am currently 'stress-testing' the leg braces and tyre socks.
I'll get some photos up in the next few days.

Pair of leg braces (pinstraps)

it's misleading to call ur straps pinstraps or pinhead straps as they are not his straps, and he won´t b very happy!

*Note: These items are made specifically to fit PoweriZer brand stilts.

In which case they wil fit pro-jumps, flying jumpers, fly jumpers, speedjumpers as well

Not wanting to be a killjoy but I have to say that if $50 at todays rate is about £25

Either the materials are being given away free in the States and you are willing to work well below minimum wage or I am missing something

Pins straps are made from good quality materials and I think are good value at the price he sells them

Althought I can't speak for Pin I know that the threads I use for anything structural is very strong (will literaly remove your finger before it breaks in a tug of war) and the webbing I use can tow a car (I have done it once in an emergency) these materials don't come cheap (you can buy cheaper but I won't) because someone could hurt themselves badly if they fail

The tyres for tyre socks can work out cheap if you buy bulk but buy too cheap and they will last one bocking session (I made one out of a £5 chinese tyre and it was through in less than an hour

When you tape springs it is for protection thin tape looks nice but the thick stuff protects better and as with all quality is dearer

Please don't take this the wrong way zendalfire I hope you can supply all you say at this price and keep the post costs down but remember if the parts don't last you won't get repeat orders and you only get one shot in this community as it is so small every one knows straight away if something is good or bad and posts accordingly

And yes that was naughty calling them (pinstraps) and I wouldn't like to be on your end if he spots it  :haha:

Having said all that I wish you the best of luck as we need things like this to make the sport more accesable but remember people will pay a little more if the quality is there

I'm with you on that jason. The price looks great but i wouldnt want rubbish stuff. would rather pay more and have something that does the job properly and lasts.

I only included (pinstraps) as I thought that was a somewhat established name, like tyre sock; so people would know exactly what I was describing, quickly.  Fine, I'll call them Zenstraps  ;D

Apparently materials are cheaper in the states..  Here is what I am using:

PVC tape is 'professional grade' - can't find any better  :-\
Webbing is thickest I can find at 1 inch width, you will snap the buckle before the webbing
Buckles are robust and curved to fit your leg
Tyre socks are made from general bmx/mountain tires (my current pair is at 12 hrs and counting..)
All other accessories are general materials cut to fit

Total cost is slightly less than $50, without buying bulk.
Photos soon..

Hey Zendalfire,

It may be a good idea to send a sample kid to one of the bockers to test it out for you in the UK, I think if the tester gives you the  then you will get orders flooding in!

Even though PinHead & Jason were well known in the community before they started selling they let someone test their products first  :)

Have a think about it  ;)

all the best.

Webmaster-
Just what I was thinking!  I was debating how to decide who gets the first kit..

For my set, I have 2-color straps; they match my current black/red scheme.
Also, I don't have support pads on the straps, but can easily be added.  (They will be in the kit)
Here are some photos:
