Title: 2012 Championships
Post by: Locky on November 09, 2011, 01:01:20 PM
Well guys I have spoken to both the sports council of england and sports wales and both have the same answer. Because we're not "recognised" we can take a run and jump.

I think the only other way for us to host this is with some major sponsorship from the likes of Redbull etc and I am not even sure any of them will be interested.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, now would be a good time to voice them :)

Probably a dumb question but does it have to be done by a recognised body? can't it be self regulated?

To get government support of any kind yes it would. We're not going to get that so we're on our own in which case we can do whatever the hell we like as long as the venue and insurance (where needed) are ok with it.

I know this might not be what you are thinking of Locky but

Wouldn't something like a disused airfield with a couple of hangers toilets etc be a good sort of place for something like this or a large warehouse

My thinking is it would be cheap
We couldn't do much damage
And normaly places like that have some interesting obstacles
We could also get a few stage type platforms
The insurance for a place like that would probably be lower
Would be a bit different industrial setting for good pics

As for transport hire a mini bus to bring people from the local station for a small fee (enough to cover the bus and driver hire)

Unless you are looking for large crowds in which case you are stuck with the expensive venues

I know what you mean Jason, I might be assuming too much here but from the video of this years event in france, I dont think it cost too much for them to put on. Certainly the state of the track didnt look up to standard. I dont quite understand how they managed to get accomodation included with the event price but that's something else.

All I am saying is, I was really hoping this event could really put bocking on the UK Map and get the national attention it deserves. Without the backing of the sports authorities or a major brand sponsor, I cant see that happening and I'm not going to be the one who leads the organising of this  if we're not going to get a real long term benefit out of it. It's just not worth the hassle and I dont really have the time to commit to it.

If there is a group of us organising it then thats different but again I'm not looking for people to say "yeah i'll help, what do you want me to do?" It needs some serious pro-active people to get it done.

thanks Dan, I've emailed them so we'll see if they can help but by the looks of things they are an organisation for National governing bodies and unfortunately we dont have one.

Redbull idea sounds good, also speak to Animal they into sports stuff. We were at the Hub festival in the wirral a year or so ago and they had us put some Animal T-shirts on and have some Photos done so they might be interested.
