Title: Few questions
Post by: Shanto on July 13, 2011, 12:49:50 PM
Recently my friends started picking up skating again, but I can't skate for crap and don't really want to. Now this seems like a really good thing to try out. Although I have a few questions, I've never done any kind of extreme sport, I've only started going to the gym recently to get in shape and I don't have a tonne of money. So my questions are, can this be picked up by anyone, I'm 19 weigh 101 Kgs, I'm about 5ft 11. I want to get into some kind of extreme sport as it seems good for cardio and these are supposed to be really fun.

My second question is, would I be better buying them? If so what ones should I get, if not is there any sites I can rent them from for a smaller price to see if I can actually use them or base my buy on how often I use them (I don't want a novelty to wear off and then they lie in my cupboard forever).

So those are my questions just now, hopefully if everything goes well I'll buy them on Saturday and get them on Tuesday.

Hi Shanto,

Nobody hires them so buying them would be your best bet. Where abouts are you? There may be a group close to you willing to let you have a go.

It's impossible to say whether or not they would sit in the cupboard. In my experience, if you have to ask the question then they probably will gather dust.

I'm not really interested in getting into a group atm, for now I'd only really be doing anything when my friends go to skate.

As well can anyone recommend decent jump stilts for beginners? I can spend like £130 at a stretch.

Going to a group meet is probably the only way to try them before you buy. They would also help get you going on them pretty quickly too. I think projump exos are a good place to start but they cost £150.

I think I will get some on Tuesday, if anyone could link me to a good pair, maybe even used but if not I can buy new, I can do £150 but I wasn't hoping on spending that much just incase summer turns out s**t in terms of weather (Scotland).

Also, how easy is this for someone to get into if they've never done any kind of extreme sport?

for new stilts these are your best bet http://www.ghostbikes.com/categorylist/PowerBock-Shop-Jumping-Stilts-Adult-Pro-Jump-Exo/

as to how quickly one can walk on these, the manual says normal walking in about 20 minutes, but I did this in 5. I'm not a extreme sportsman, but have done some ordinary sports, like basketball, and Judo.

hope this is of help to you

Don't forget to get elbow and knee pads and most important Wristguards

They are not an optional extra they are a way of staying out of hospital  :Claugh:

Thanks guys, huge help, going to buy a pair on Tuesday and hopefully be able to start breaking them in if the weather stays not crap here in Glasgow.

The ghost bike site doesn't seem to have wrist guards. Is there any sites with more power stilts related safety gear?

Any good skate shop  if you want a cheep pair but I use Flexmeter Multisport (£40 a pair but worth it)

The cheapest place I found for them is Alpsgear if you search this site for Flexmeter and Alpsgear you will find a discount code in one of the posts

If you don't want to pay that much Sports direct were doing some sets of No Fear ones at a really good price
