Title: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: Jason on October 02, 2008, 09:50:51 PM
Ok folks now they are available thought it might be worth telling you how I fitted mine

First all most of these pics are of the LEFT bock the right one will be a mirror image with everything round the other way (the reason for this will become obvious)

This is what it should look like when it is fitted

Before you start you need to measure how far your calf is from the upright of the bockswhile you still have the old kneebars on (see further down this post)
I don't know if PJ's will be sold with Cuffs already fitted but if they are try to get your leg positioned upright in comparison to the main upright support
(The square post bit behind your leg)

Bolting on the bars that support the cuffs is easy but you must get them about the right height for you and they need to be the right width apart for your legs and they need to be centered so your leg isn't leaning to one side or the other (It will take you a while to get them right later but that is half the fun)
So meanwhile bolt them on and get them somewhere near where they should be
Later when you get them adjusted it might be worth marking them as I have in the following pic

The cuffs are made up of 3 main parts

1] The inner padding
2] The section with the buckle
3] The section with the strap

The buckle bit has a bolt cover on it and should always go inside your leg (the cover stops the nuts catching together)

They should be fitted as in the picture below ( First pic is the left bock second the right bock)

The velcro at the back is your adjustment to move your leg back and forward

First you need an idea of where your leg should be so put one bock on with the old hoops and measure the distance from the bock to the back of your calf ( The pic below shows how to measure when the cuffs are fitted) this is to put your leg in a good position when you first use the Cuffs (you can adjust them for preference later)

Now for the confusing bit
The back velcro on the outside of the bock goes on the inside and the back velcro on the inside of the bock goes outside (look at the pic it makes more sence) You can get a rough idea of the adjustment using the mesurement to your calf try to get it as close as possible but allow for the thickness of the padding

Post by: Jason on October 02, 2008, 10:01:13 PM
Fitting the padding
If you fold the padding in half and put the middle into the center of the back velcro then work round attaching the velcro evenly

You need to do the bolts up on the clamps fairly tightly to stop the bars rotating and I found that if I can't push the bars round by hand they will stay still in normal use (In case you were wondering about the pic I removed the calf pads due to my calfs being to big and rubbing on them)
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough

You now have a cuff fitted they should look like this
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: Jason on October 02, 2008, 10:05:25 PM
Next how to do them up

The following series of pics should make this clear

1] Thread the strap through the buckle with the loose metal bit as shown (First pic)
2] Now feed the strap back through on the other side of the loose metal bit (Second pic)
3] Pull the strap tight  this may take a fair bit of effort to tighten it enough when it is new (Third pic)
4] Take the end of the strap and velcro it to the back of the cuff (Fourth pic)

The last pic shows how NOT to do the strap up as if you do it like this only the velcro will be holding it and it will be very dangerous

Hi how do i attach to sevens as they are really loose and i cannot seem to be able to see the plastic thing's on the pro-jump website. i was thinking of adding rubber round the poles to provide friction   but wow cuffs are so much more nicer on the legs

i think you need to change the clamps to metal ones, so they will work correctly, jason may know better than me, as i dont own a pair of sevens

They do sell the plastic bits just Naz hasn't had time to put them up

The 7 ones are to flimsy to hold the bars properly best to PM Naz (webmaster) and she will sort it out for you

Hi,
I finally replaced my knee bar with Calf cuffs bought from www.projumpforum.co.uk, it's a different world!
Are fantastic, compared to the knee bar are much more comfortable, for me of obviously!

I would just like to say I have been using the pro jump calf cuffs for a week now and they are really good. very strong and comfortable and look well made. I really like that there is no bolts on the sides that stick out. I had loads of trouble with them going though stilt trousers and damaging my stilts when they hit.

great product, recommended.

Yep Spud the new ones have a captive nut set into the bar so the bolt dosen't stick out on the outside

Why o Why did I decide to buy the 7's ones..which I have found out they have a fault or something  :Ceek: Trust me to do something like that. Oh also, erm, I think my legs are too thin and even when I have the bar at the bottom it still reaches like my knee..so the extra bulk of my pads makes it uncomfy, any padding or at least something I might be able to do?
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: Jason on March 06, 2010, 09:59:14 PM
Ooh what is the fault that they have

And sometimes if you can overbend the bars you can make the cuff go lower but you would need someone who knew what they were doing with aluminium

well the two buckle things (silver things?) they can slip through eachother if pressure is put on them, which makes it 'untie' its self, which is dangerous maybe in midjump or falling or something.. :S

I've grown quite a bit since the last time i've been on them (over a year and a half ago..) so I will check later on :D
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough

Yep I remember that on a post a while back

I think the cure is to make the loop in the webbing small enough to stop them moving by sewing closer to the buckles

Stick up a picture and I'll make sure I'm on the right track

I'm thinking of getting calf cuffs cos I'm finding the knee bar and strap a bit uncomfortable.
Thought I'd ask for some opinions to see whether people think they're worth the investment - £30 for the pair of cuffs and another £28 for Wulf knee pads at Pro Jump.
Also could you recommend anywhere else with better prices if you know anywhere.

Thanks,

James

Hi James

I use cuffs for the same reason (can't stand the kneebars they hurt me ) and the cuffs are so much better

As for prices I don't think you'll beat the cuff prices anywhere
The wulf kneepads are a very nice bit of kit and hence a bit more expensive than the cheaper types
Projump used to sell some cheaper ones and they were really good but no one seems to stock them anymore

Thanks!

You will find more that like them than dislike them. I have only read of a couple of people who liked the bar better.. Anway. I love the cuffs. I am also happy to bock with a knee bar. I also think projump still sell the old 'pitdirts' but under a different name. I use these with cuffs no bother.

however, my advice, if you are worried about, would be to go to a meet and try some. Then you know ;)

Know what?
I'm just gonna buy these now methinks.
Might try and find the 'pitdirts' before I buy.
Otherwise 60-odd quid.
Achievable I hope.

I was gonna get those ones when I first got my bocks but they were sold out at the time so I got different pads (not from Pro Jump - I think).
So these pads should be ok with calf cuffs?
Or d'ythink my current pads would be ok with cuffs?

yes you do DC. You get then just like in the picture. You can pull the bars out and put the cuffs straight in. Then you have to faff around for a while getting them set up and never move them again haha.

I don't know if you are still bocking Caroline but there is a simple fix for the old XB7 cuffs you have.
All you need to do is sew behind the first ring to stop it from pivoting. If you can sew between the 2 rings also, that should prevent any possibility of one passing through the other although this would be just extra insurance.

ok lol so newbie owner of some calf cuffs now either my legs are to fat or ive ordered a pair of junior ones because when i do them up i have to do them so tight it cuts off my circulation and i can only just about get the strap to reach the velcro at the back of the calf heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp (in my best high pitched southern penelopy pit stop voice)

With the cuffs you may find the long strap doesn't go all the round the back as you could with the older versions, the manufacturer shortened the strap but you should be able to get it to stick on the velcro that shows at the front

So let me get this straight.  I want to take off the padding drill the velcro on the cuff strap...measure where my leg should be..adjust the cuff back so its at that length..put tye velcro back on..and strap up? that may explain why I couldn't get a tight fit and felt like the back of my leg wasn't pushed hard.  I couldn't strap it smaller due to thin lets when really it must be because I didn't fix the strap! The distance. That makes me happy seeing I don't have to add extra padding to my leg
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: billymaya on August 15, 2011, 09:50:28 AM
hi killax :) just a quick note with the calf cuffs they do take a while to soften up a bit so stick with them when i first got my cuffs they were hard to tighten down but about a month down the line they get alot easier to tighten down properly, also try bulking them out with shin/knee pads if you have skinny legs some of the guys do this to help pad it up a bit to make it a better fit :)
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: killax on August 15, 2011, 04:46:19 PM
Well, Maybe i lack explaining but here.  I have the bars rotate close to, what was best fit for me.  As you can see, the back of the cuff, even with the padding! is EQUAL to the metal back.  Not where your leg is, which maybe 1" for example.  But the cuff, as 0".  That's why i was asking if that is something you can adjust, or not really due to the strap (meaning I may have to drill holes possibly)

Also.  Whats the deal with the strap on the side?  I mean it can hit the Velcro above the bar, but whats the point in that?  It's not a tight stretch to that Velcro...So, why have it?  I couldn't find a single use to it to be honest.
Title: Re: Pro-Jump Calf Cuff Walkthrough
Post by: billymaya on August 15, 2011, 05:19:23 PM
by the looks of your photos you need to open the metal arms a bit more so that your leg slides to the back of the calf cuff if you have them to close together this stops your calf muscel from sitting in the back of the cuff properly, it does take a bit of fiddling around until you get it right its all down to individuals taste really, the flap on the side mmmm yes kinda pointless its supposed to help protect the bolt that the cuff attaches with but mine half ripped through quite quickly and the velcro on it doesnt really hold its the same on most models with calf cuffs i think.

before you start drilling holes in them i'd have a play around with them by taking the inside of the cuff right out (its all velcrode on) so you should have 2 pieces to it and adjust it around your leg ive always found it easier to adjust the cuffs once on your stilts so you can put your self in the right position and balanced when u walk as you get used to them you should be able to adjust them to how you like it :)

If you go to the 3rd post at the begining of this thread the picture shows that the two halfs of the stilts can be seperated and adjusted

You should be able to get them much smaller and further forward that you have them without drilling holes in anything

Yup that was the problem.  When i put them on my leg was under 1" from the back bar.  But my foot was more than 1" away.  I ended up pulling the bars apart, and found the cuff strap was way too far back.  I undid it all, re-adjusted it, and now my leg not only hits the back at a good distance from the bar, the cuff actually FITS around my whole leg, unlike it did before =)  Much nicer fit, now to repeat to the other, and maybe give them a try to see the difference.  Thanks!
